Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within its Laws but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to the game itself. The major responsibility for ensuring the spirit of fair play rests with the captains.
Following the league making representation to regional water companies regarding the hose pipe ban below is an update on the response so far received.
Anglia Water would appear to be making some concession to cricket clubs on the grounds of health and saftey. Please check with your county board and water company for the status on this.
Violia Water are being less forthcoming and are sticking to the stand point that it is up to individual clubs to seek legal advise on their position on health and safety issues that may present as a result of the ban.
Most of us are now considering our response to the proposed hosepipe ban in our region and the impact it will have on our sport. With this in mind we have drafted a letter to the water companies from the perspective of the league in support of all our clubs.
The ECB and our County boards have been active in representing our clubs and the sport of cricket in general and all our clubs have been advised of their actions along with guidelines on how to make a case for individual clubs.
An update on the safeguarding and protecting children requirement from the perspective of Essex County Cricket Board is published below. The announcement was issued by Jeni Morrell prior to her leaving the post of County welfare officer this month.
All clubs are reminded that it is an obligation under rule 20 that they have a fully qualified Child welfare officer in place. Particular attention is drawn to the entry in rule 20 that the onus is on clubs to provide the information to the League CWO or in his absence the league chairman. Rule 20 is outlined below. Over recent seasons the committee have taken note of the views of clubs regarding the possible regionalising of the lower divisions in the HECL. There has been an increasing groundswell of opinion that this should be examined in depth with a view to proposing changes going forward.
